As Christmas is closing in, this week’s Friday Five is bound to get you in the festive spirit if you’re not in it already.

The Pennywell Christmas Experience

The Pennywell Christmas Experience is a great activity for all the family to experience the magic this season. Visit the Pennywell Farm winter wonderland and embark on a Christmas adventure through the farm accompanied by some nativity creatures, hundreds of Christmas trees, pesky elves and of course, their forever famous miniature piglets.

Some dates are sold out already, but their Christmas Experiences run until 24 December and tickets are £16.95pp.

Merry Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fayre

This weekend is the 18th year of the Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fayre. There’s food, gifts, crafts, and plenty of entertainment to enjoy.  Parking is available on site but why not hop across on the Cremyll Ferry for a change. Entrance is £3 per adult and £1 per child, with tickets available on the door.

The Christmas Cocktails are Calling!

Getting together with friends and family is what Christmas is all about. Various bars across the city have decked themselves out with instagrammable festive backdrops for the perfect group photo. We recommend Ocean View at the Dome, Bonne Sante and The Treasury. If you’re after somewhere with a log fire and cocktails aren’t your thing, there are so many pubs to choose from you will be spoilt for choice.

Say hello to new traders at the Plymouth Christmas Market

There are some new traders at the Christmas market this weekend! We’re saying goodbye to a few and hello to Witches Lair, Upbeat Spirits, the RSPB, Daamn Good Bakes, South Devon Chilli Farm and more. Entertainment this weekend includes Italia Conti Plymouth, Manuka a bohemian acoustic band, University of Plymouth Big Band, St Andrews Church Choir and LaLa Choir.

Christmas Crazy Golf

Let the festive feeling take over and take on 18 holes of crazy golf at China Fleet across the River Tamar in Saltash. The course has been dressed up for Christmas and it’s a great way to get your friends or family together. You can just turn up and play, no booking needed for just £5pp.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.

Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.

We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.

This Christmas market reminds me of one in Madeira (A Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean.) So many foods, flavors, and a beautiful atmosphere. I wrote an article about Madeira's Christmas market; feel free to check the article and images here: https://chi-nese.com/
