Happy new year! Now is an excellent time to focus on health and wellness, so grab some fresh air and exercise outside. Why not also give the Veganuary challenge a go? Not only is it good for your health, but it's also good for the environment

Here's some suggestions for your weekend.

Try Veganuary

Whether you’re taking part in the month-long challenge, are a committed vegan, or simply like Vegan food, Plymouth has plenty of vegan delights on offer.

And if you aren’t vegan, many of these restaurant menus also feature meat and dairy dishes so everyone can dine happily together, whatever their food of choice…

Check out our eight restaurants to try this Veganuary blog for some inspiration!

See beautiful scenery

Enjoy a walk at Mount Edgcumbe, set within 865 acres Country Park on the Rame Peninsula, South East Cornwall. The park is open year round, daily from 8am to dusk and is free to the public, whic includes the National Camellia Collection and the majority of the formal gardens.

Last chance to visit British Art Show 9

Although British Art Show 9 has finished at most venues, it is still open until 8 January at The Box! Head there this weekend to see the last of this fantastic exhibition. You can also enjoy the BAS9 'Spotlight Talks' from 11am to 11.15am where you can listen to a short informal talk about an artist or work of art in the exhibition.

Find out more about British Art Show 9 on the Made In Plymouth website.

Explore the city on foot

Hope for the weather and venture out on one of Plymouth's many walking trails across the city. A lovely way to spend some time together. Download the free Plymouth Trails app for a range of trails with real time maps and multimedia content.

Treat yourself

After a weekend of exploring the outdoors, why not treat yourself and head to Drake Circus The Barcode to visit Kaspa's Desserts, an exciting new dessert house, offering the world’s favourite hot and cold desserts under one roof! Their menu boasts a mouth-watering selection of ice creams, gelatos, waffles, crepes, milkshakes, smoothies and sundaes.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.

Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.

We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
