Category: Things to doFriday Five

This weekend is gearing up to be a busy one, there’s so much to do and not enough time it’s such a difficult choice! Here are some of our recommendations if you’re struggling to decide, so share these with your friends and family to plan your weekend in Britain’s Ocean City.

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day the traditional way

Today (17 March) is St Patrick’s Day, so head down to Kitty O’Hanlons, Plymouth’s Irish pub, for a good old Irish knee’s up. There’s live music from Jack O’Rouke and The Rouges, and later in the day Black Friday on the court steps (weather permitting). It’s free entry and there’s plenty of Guinness.

Treat your mum this Mother’s Day

Sunday is the day to celebrate the mum in your life who ever that may be. It’s looking like Sunday has a few dry spells so make the most of the Plymouth Citybus offer to explore Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, up to 3 u16s travel free with 1 fare-paying adult, and treat your mum to a coffee or ice-cream by the sea. We have also pulled together a few other suggestions from afternoon teas to Sunday lunches to give you a little more inspiration to spoil your mum this Mother's Day.

Enjoy the final weekend of Six Nations

This weekend is the final week of rugby for the Guinness Six Nations. Watch Scotland v Italy, France v Wales and England v Ireland on Saturday at many of the cities pubs and bars. Choose from Walkabout, The Three Crowns, The Brass Monkey and Roundabout plus more dotted around the city. It’s will be a great weekend of sport!

Witness a piece of one of Footballs Greats

This week, Pele’s iconic number 10 shirt that he wore in a friendly against Plymouth Argyle whilst he played for Santos FC, went on show at The Box. The piece has gone on display to mark the 50th anniversary of the legend’s appearance at Home Park, on loan from former Argyle defender Johnny Hore who Pele gave his short to after the match. The Box are also taking part in National Lottery Open Week so any lottery players out there, take a scratch card or lottery ticket along and you will be entitled to a free tea or coffee and a slice of cake in The Box Kitchen and Bar.

Get your boogie shoes on

Pogo Presents: Seas of Mirth and Cav & Friends at Roundabout tonight (17 March) from 9pm. The Seas of Mirth have played stages at Glastonbury, Boomtown, Bestival and had countless tours across the UL and Western Europe. If you have an eclectic taste in music this band is for you playing wonky disco funk to worldly dance beats to psyche prog-folk. Tickets are ‘pay what you feel and can afford from £5’.
