To celebrate the launch of the The Salt Path and the work of the South West Coast Path charity, the South West Coast Path Association is holding a series of exciting events, in and around Plymouth, over two days from Friday 6 – Saturday 7 June, bringing together Coast Path supporters, volunteers and those who’ve undertaken their own life-changing journeys along the Path to celebrate the health-giving happiness of the world-leading coastal Trail.
Events include a South West Coast Path Forum, chaired by former BBC environmental correspondent Sarah Mukherjee, where supporters will share their own inspiring stories from the Path , a guided walk from Wembury to Mount Batten to celebrate World Trails Day, and two special fundraising screenings of The Salt Path.
SW Coast Path Biennial Forum | Royal William Yard | Friday 6 June
Hear from five amazing people who each have a different experience to share about how the South West Coast Path has impacted their lives and those around them. From completers, to fundraisers, to partners, and volunteers, each story shared will bring a unique perspective on what makes the South West Coast Path one of the UK’s most loved National Trails.
A panel session moderated by Sarah Mukherjee will follow the presentations, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and add to the discussion.
There is no cost to attend the forum – all are welcome. Find out more about the event.
Special screening of The Salt Path | Plymouth Arts Cinema | Friday 6 June
Join the SWCP team at this special screening of The Salt Path at Plymouth Arts Cinema, raising funds for the South West Coast Path Association. When you select your ticket type, you will have the option to add a donation worth 20% of the ticket price to the charity. There will be additional options to donate on the night. Book your tickets to the event.
World Trails Day events | Saturday 7 June
Wembury to Mount Batten Walk
Join the South West Coast Path Association for a FREE 6.5-mile guided walk from Wembury to Mount Batten. The walk provides stunning views across Plymouth Sound and towards the Rame Head peninsula.
The Great Mewstone, inspiration for Turner's famous 'Mewstone' watercolour, is also prominent, and now home to a bird sanctuary. Mount Batten Point and the headlands beyond it have been key sites for defending Plymouth throughout history, and there are fascinating glimpses of several of the 'Palmerston Follies', a ring of coastal forts built around Plymouth at the end of the nineteenth century.
Places are limited, book early to avoid disappointment.
Special screening of The Salt Path | Everyman Cinema
Everyman Cinema is partnering with the South West Coast Path Association, the charity that protects, improves and champions the South West Coast Path, as walked by Raynor and Moth Winn in The Salt Path.
With an introductory welcome by South West Coast Path, National Trail Officer, Lorna Sherriff, you’ll be able to meet the SWCPA team and find out more about the real ‘salt path’ that wraps its way around the Plymouth coastline, the only city on the 630-mile Trail.
In addition to The Salt Path, audiences will be able to enjoy a short film, Trailblazer Walk, narrated by Raynor Winn, that chronicles a relay walk along the South West Coast Path in celebration of the charity’s 50th anniversary. The Trailblazer Walk film premiered at the World Trails Film Festival in 2024.
Join this special screening at 5.30pm to celebrate World Trails Day and the incredible trail on Plymouth’s doorstep. Book your tickets now to avoid dissappointment.
