Discover The Box
Start your February half-term adventure at The Box, Plymouth’s free-to-visit museum, art gallery and archive just a short walk from the city centre. This vibrant cultural hub is packed with family-friendly galleries, sensory experiences and a brilliant events programme running throughout the week, making it ideal for all ages.
If you haven’t already, make time for the hugely popular Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy, the largest-ever exhibition of her work with more than 80 pieces on display, including loans from private and public collections and rarely seen items from the Cook family archives. Don’t miss the new large-scale Beryl statues that have appeared around the city, each one inspired by scenes rooted in Plymouth and connected to the exhibition’s self-guided walking tour.
Opening just in time for the holidays, Journeys with Mai invites you to explore four gallery spaces that uncover the powerful and complex histories between Europe and the South Pacific. At its heart is Sir Joshua Reynolds’ celebrated Portrait of Mai, widely regarded as his greatest masterpiece and depicting the first Polynesian person to visit Britain, shown in Plymouth as part of a major national partnership project.
Explore the gardens of Saltram House
Saltram’s historic parkland is a rare gem: a beautifully preserved 18th-century estate that once stretched across 4,000 acres, supporting the Parker family and providing work for local communities. Today it remains a thriving working estate, where cattle still graze across sunlit pastures, and visitors can enjoy sweeping views, riverside walks and big open skies just moments from Plymouth.
Covering around 500 acres, the landscape brings together an impressive mix of habitats, including rolling farmland, wildflower meadows, tranquil woodlands, beaches, saltmarsh and a peaceful estuary, making it perfect for family walks, wildlife spotting and adventure-filled play. Hidden within the grounds, the elegant 18th-century Amphitheatre folly adds an extra touch of historic charm, creating a storybook backdrop for your day out.
This February half-term, step into a world of magic on the Fairy House Trail, where the usually hidden fairy houses are proudly on show around Saltram’s garden for believers of all ages. Track down all 10 enchanting homes, complete the fun activities along the way, and then head to the bookshop to collect your well-earned magical sticker – the perfect finish to a whimsical family adventure.

Come face-to-face with magnificent Amur tigers, powerful African lions and elegant Amur leopards, as well as cheeky monkeys, inquisitive meerkats and gentle tapirs. Thoughtfully designed enclosures help you feel closer than ever to these extraordinary animals, creating unforgettable moments for the whole family.

Dive into an underwater adventure at the National Marine Aquarium, the UK’s largest aquarium and a must-visit this half-term. Step inside and journey from the shores of Plymouth Sound all the way to the dazzling coral reefs of tropical Australia, discovering the incredible stories of our ocean along the way.

Every ticket comes with a complimentary annual pass, so you can return as many times as you like for a whole year, and every visit helps support the Ocean Conservation Trust’s vital work to protect and restore the Ocean for future generations.
