Plymouth has plenty of welcoming restaurants that cater for children whilst offering great food for adults. With relaxed atmospheres, children’s menus and central locations close to top attractions, these spots are ideal for family meals in Britain’s Ocean City.

Here are some of Plymouth’s best family-friendly restaurants to add to your list.

The Boathouse Café

Set right beside the Mayflower Steps, The Boathouse Café is a great place to stop after exploring the history of the Barbican. It has a delicious menu filled with fresh seafood, and there’s a little sailor’s menu especially for children which includes a drink. It’s also great on a summer’s day as the roof retracts, meaning you can dine al fresco!

Rockfish

Perfect for seafood lovers, Rockfish’s menu is filled to the brim with fresh, delicious seafood that has been caught the same day. There’s a children’s menu featuring main dishes which also come with chips, a side and a scoop of gelato. Rockfish is also conveniently located right next door to the National Marine Aquarium, so you don’t have to travel far. Even better, for every main course ordered by an adult, an under-11 can enjoy a portion of kids’ fish and chips for free!

The Dock

The Dock has a stunning view of Millbay Marina, which is only made better by its fantastic children’s menu. They have delicious breakfast options like pancakes, as well as an all-day menu which comes with a drink and tasty options like bangers & mash or carbonara. They are also dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole family along.

Salumi

Located close to Millbay, Salumi puts twists on British classics. They are well known in Plymouth for the variety of their dishes, and children can sample some of these. The menu includes classics like fish & chips, as well as mac ‘n’ cheese or even a steak burger.

Olive and Twist

Calling the city centre home, Olive and Twist is the perfect place to stop for lunch or dinner after a few hours exploring Plymouth’s shopping scene. Children will be spoilt for choice with this expansive menu, which includes a grazing board, Belgian waffle and a smashed burger amongst other delicious choices.

Ocean View at The Dome

With one of the best views in the city, Ocean View at The Dome offers a relaxed dining experience overlooking Plymouth Sound. It’s an easy win for families thanks to its dedicated children’s menu, which includes a variety of sweet treats alongside classic mains. We highly recommend the profiteroles!

The Waterfront

Located right on Plymouth’s historic harbourfront, The Waterfront is a brilliant all-rounder for families. With both indoor and outdoor seating, you can enjoy stunning sea views while tucking into a menu packed with pub classics and crowd-pleasers. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly spot with plenty of choice, making it easy to keep both adults and little ones happy. Even better, it’s dog-friendly too, so everyone can come along.

KUKU

For something a little different, KUKU offers a stylish yet welcoming Japanese dining experience in the heart of the city. Known for its sushi and robata grill dishes prepared fresh to order, it’s a great place to introduce children to new flavours in a relaxed setting.

The Fisherman’s Arms

Tucked just above the Barbican, The Fisherman’s Arms is one of Plymouth’s oldest pubs and full of character. With a cosy interior, open fire and welcoming feel, it’s perfect for a relaxed family meal. The menu focuses on freshly prepared pub classics alongside more unique dishes, all made using quality ingredients. It’s also dog-friendly, making it a great option if you’re exploring the area with the whole family.

Leandra

A long-standing favourite in the city centre, Leandra is a family-run restaurant that has built its reputation over more than 30 years. Known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a great choice for relaxed family dining.

The menu offers a mix of Mediterranean and British classics, with everything from traditional Greek dishes like moussaka and lamb kleftico to steaks, fresh fish and hearty favourites. There’s also a dedicated children’s menu, making it easy for younger diners to find something they’ll enjoy.
