Discover Plymouth
Discover Plymouth as you've never seen it before
Situated in one of the most beautiful locations imaginable, Plymouth is sandwiched between the incredible South West coastline and the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park.
There’s everything you’d expect to find from a cool, cultural city here, with great food and drink, shopping, arts and entertainment.
Rain or shine, Britain’s Ocean City is home to breath-taking views, plenty to see and do and lots of fresh, sea air. Let us show you around.
Day one:
Start your visit with a trip to The Box, Plymouth’s new museum, art gallery and cultural centre. Nine permanent galleries will showcase The Box’s incredible collections and will include 14 monumental ships’ figureheads, thousands of natural history specimens, a full-size woolly mammoth replica, paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and ceramics from the city’s art collections, objects, film and photography from its media collections and documents, maps and plans from its archives. Don’t miss the Mayflower 400: Legend and Legacy exhibition to rediscover the story of the Mayflower and its passengers.
Enjoy lunch at the Box Kitchen and Bar sat underneath the iconic figureheads before you head off to explore the rest of the city.
From here stroll into the city centre where you can indulge in some retail therapy, with big name brands and high street favourites as well as a vibrant indoor market and fantastic independent shops.
Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the historic streets of the Barbican and Sutton Harbour. Wander along the Elizabethan cobbled streets and take in the history and atmosphere, walking in the footsteps of adventurers including Sir Francis Drake, Charles Darwin and the Mayflower Pilgrims. Make sure to visit the Mayflower Steps where the Mayflower set sail for America in 1620, and walk along to the Hoe, where you’ll find Look II facing out to sea.
Stay at Rooms by Bistrot Pierre at the picturesque Royal William Yard. This beautifully renovated Grade II listed building is home to the luxurious rooms by Bistrot Pierre offering bed and breakfast and exquisite views of the historic former naval victualling yard. Royal William Yard is home to a range of bars and restaurants perfect for dinner and drinks.
Day two:
On day two, get ready to learn more about Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City and our links to the sea. Start the day with a guided walking tour of the Royal Citadel to discover the stories and history of Plymouth’s military base, currently home to the Royal Artillery.
