Special event will be a 'Blast from the Pasties'
7th March 2019
The pasty is one of the most iconic foods in the South West – but do you really know as much about it as you think?
A special event organised by The Box on Saturday 23 March will give you a chance to find out!
‘Blast from the Pasties’ will take place at Moments Café, New George Street from 10am to 3pm and will be filled with pasty-themed fun for all ages.
Attendees can put their taste buds to the test with exotic and historic pasty fillings. They can also view images and archive film footage from the city’s collections and capture their own pictures in a fun photo booth.
From 11am to 12pm, food and nutrition expert and lecturer at the University of Plymouth, Dr Clare Pettinger will give a talk about ‘Tasty Insights into the South West’s Favourite Portable Dinner’.
Clare, whose research looks at the relationship between food and peoples’ wellbeing, will also highlight some other fun food fashions in her presentation.
As an added treat, executive chef Dez Turland will be on hand throughout the day to demonstrate the art of pasty crimping and help those who want to have a go themselves.
People can also bring in their recipes and food-related memories for The Box’s ‘Your Recipes, Your Heritage’ project. Launched in January, the project is partnering with CaterED, Age UK Plymouth and Plymouth Community Homes to create a series of heritage-themed menus for CaterED’s meals on wheels service.
‘Blast from the Pasties’ is a free, drop-in event with no need to book apart from Dr Clare Pettinger’s talk. People are asked to reserve their places for this via Eventbrite.
