The Box Kitchen & Bar opens for evening dining and drinks
20th October 2020
The Box Kitchen & Bar will launch its new evening opening hours at the end of October, offering a space to enjoy everything from carefully curated menus and high-quality food, to an impressive bar serving a range of delicious drinks.
Executive Chef Nat Tallents, a MasterChef: The Professionals contestant and The National Chef of the Year 2020 semi-finalist, promises a range of stunning dishes sourcing the very best local ingredients raised, grazed and grown in the surrounding landscape and fished from nearby waters.
The menu takes inspiration drawn from the seasons and fine produce from local South West suppliers. Guests can enjoy soft drinks from Luscombe, Devon brewed beer and cider, or a cocktail titled The King Billy – featuring Barbican Botanicals. Steel Brew Co. will be available alongside Salcombe Brewery who also feature on the menu with a pale ale, and their Ocean cider ready on tap.
Since The Box Kitchen & Bar opened in September, the response has been incredible with people visiting from far and wide to enjoy a dining experience in a unique setting.
Nat said: “It’s so exciting to be launching our evening service which will offer a destination dining experience with a difference, with a curated wine and drinks list to match.
“Following on from our opening in September, with our daytime offering quickly proving a huge success, we hope people will be drawn in by the quality and exclusivity of our evening menu.”
The modern dining space is within the £44 million museum, with food served under vast ships figureheads that swing in suspension above the tables. While Plymouth’s history pervades, there’s a truly modern vibe to The Box Kitchen & Bar and Nat’s brilliance as a chef brings it right to the forefront of dining in the 21st century.
Nat said: “Since we opened we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with the positive response to what we are doing here and we are delighted that so many people have quickly made The Box Kitchen & Bar their go-to venue. We’re really looking forward to extending our offering into the evenings, with small platters and new seasonal dishes which will celebrate bold tastes and local food. It’s an exciting time, and we’re all so proud to be part of something so positive for Plymouth.”
The food is meticulously prepared, with a menu that caters for all dietary needs, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free. The dishes showcase Nat’s flair for combining the taste and flavour of the Westcountry landscape, with more than a nod to Plymouth’s intriguing history, and those that have shaped the city and its surroundings.
The Box Kitchen & Bar provides diners with a safe, socially distanced setting. The Box Kitchen & Bar will be open 5pm - 10pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from October 29. An evening Christmas menu is available from December 2 and is served Wednesday to Saturday, 6pm - 10pm, with last orders for food at 9pm.
The Box Kitchen & Bar supports the RNLI Fish Supper initiative. Between the 19th and 24th October for every lunchtime Fish & Chips ordered off the menu, a share of the profits will be donated towards the incredible work the RNLI family do to save lives at sea.
