About us
Due to the most recent government guidance about mass gatherings due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), this event has sadly been cancelled or postponed until further notice
This April we have the honour of welcoming Martin Gardner MBE to Thorn who will be giving a morning lecture and subsequent guided tour through the gardens. This day event will be accompanied with refreshments, afternoon cream tea, and an optional buffet lunch.
The banks of Thorn Gardens down to the River Yealm are informal planting and a number of Chilean plants strive here. Martin Gardner, who Eva (owner of Thorn) met on a recent botanical trip to Chile, is a prominent conservationist of Chilean plants; for which he received an MBE in 2013 and a Veitch memorial medal by the RHS in 2014. Martin also worked for about 30 years at RBG Edinburgh.
