About us
Take part in a locally led sewing circle and sew a bandana for an international artwork
As part of the newly launched Settlement digital art platform and Mayflower 400, locally led sewing circle sessions are launching for people in Plymouth and surrounding areas offering individuals the chance to contribute to an international artwork to be exhibited at Denver Art Museum in 2021.
The sessions will be hosted by Melinda Schwakhofer, an American artist and citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation with Austrian-American ancestry, who now lives and works on Dartmoor in the UK. Through her personal artistic journey, she has found that community involvement, social engagement and deep healing can be achieved through art making.
And Karen Evans, artist for Plymouth-based The Conscious Sisters who is leading the engagement programme for Settlement. She has worked in communities for a lifetime and specialises in socially engaged practice.
The Each/Other Sewing Circles will run online from 11am to midday every Saturday starting on the 24th October for 5 weeks. To sign up email hello@theconscioussisters.com If you need materials let us know.
