The team behind the brewery has been working with artist collective SUPERFLEX (founded in 1993 in Copenhagen by Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, Jakob Fenger and Rasmus Nielsen) as part of the Atlantic Project to bring locally-brewed, fresh and fine beer to the city's brewing fans.
In partnership with Empowering Places Plymouth, the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO), City College, Summerskills and local folk and we're delighted to bring you the Billy Ruffian's Brewing Co. FREE BEER brew for the very first time. And the first one's free!
The SUPERFLEX group have developed FREE BEER versions 6.0 (the Atlantic brews) as part of their long-term open source brewing project. And all the profits from the Billy Ruffian's batches will returned to the community in Plymouth. Freedom here is about a lack of ownership and open distribution. They say "FREE BEER is a beer which is free as in free speech, not in the sense of free beer." However, you can have a bottle free on us for as long as stocks last!
The recipe and branding elements of FREE BEER version 6.0 (the Atlantic brew) are published under a Creative Commons license.
