About us

"The Murphy Beds present traditional and original folk songs with close harmonies and deft instrumental arrangements for bouzouki, guitar, and mandolin. Jefferson and Eamon have been performing together since first meeting at Irish music sessions in New York City. Both had a love of collecting, arranging and performing songs from Irish, American, Scottish and English traditions. Whatever the source – songs of Irish travellers, Arkansas spirituals or their own compositions – their arrangements feature the same carefully wrought interplay of voice and strings. As well as playing with many friends and comrades from the 'trad' music world they have also performed and collaborated with artists across the folk spectrum including Beth Orton, Anais Mitchell and Sam Amidon. In 2013, Jefferson won a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award with Anais Mitchell. See http://calstockarts.org/category/whatson/ for more details. Times align to Tamar Valley Train service from Plymouth
