About us
We're incredibly excited to welcome Brazilian artist Valeria Weber to Devonport Guildhall! Coming all the way from São Paulo, Valeria will be holding her pop-up exhibition Liquified Summer across three days, so be sure to drop by before the show finishes. After exhibiting nationally in her own country in addition to various UK shows, we welcome Valeria's first exhibition in Plymouth. An open day and talk will also take place Saturday 7 July, 1-3pm.
Summer, through the eyes of the artist, is the combination of the effects of the sun and the rain. It is the myriad of colours, the need to celebrate life, the power of nature that makes people want to leave their houses. In a Brazilian summer, all sunny days, with no exception, end with a refreshing rainfall. The paintings presented in this exhibition follow that same idea, having a specific temperature and a climate of their own. There is a strong presence of colours in a vibrant and open palette, where organic shapes are affiliated with fragments of nature. Try and imagine a landscape, heat it with the sun, let the rain come, and then you will obtain the visual effect of the paintings in this exhibition.
Valéria Weber was born and raised in São Paulo, where she lives and works. A graduate from Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Entrepreneurship, she worked in graphic design for 10 years as the Creative Associate Director in Cornerstone Branding NY in São Paulo. She studied painting with artists like Paulo Pasta, Leda Catunda and Deborah Paiva, and is a member of a painting association led by Regina Parra and Rodolpho Parigi in São Paulo. The artist's foundation in Art was accomplished though a number of art courses, featuring her classes in Chelsea College of Arts (UAL) on the Curation of Contemporary Art and in Sotheby's on History of Art. Valéria Weber today dedicates herself entirely towards the practice of painting and ceramic sculpting, spending hours on end in her studio in São Paulo, where she is represented by the gallery Arte Hall, through whom she participates in art fairs and exhibitions.
