While summer might be winding down, nothing says British seaside quite like fish and chips by the water. Plymouth is the perfect place to indulge in this much-loved tradition. The only challenge is choosing where to go so to make it easier, we’ve put together a guide to some of the best spots for fish and chips in Plymouth:  

                                         

Rockfish

Situated in Sutton Harbour, this seafood restaurant and takeaway offer lovely views and delicious food. At Rockfish, you can expect impeccably fresh, locally sourced fish caught daily at Brixham, cooked to order – whether crisp-fried or chargrilled. It is the perfect spot to stop after a visit to the National Marine Aquarium.  

                                    

The Hook & Line

From day to night, The Hook & Line at Royal William Yard serves a mix of the freshest seafood delights, caught by local fishing boats. Enjoy dishes ranging from mackerel pâté on toasted artisan bread and fish or veggie tacos to pan-fried scallops, lobster and fries – and of course, delicious traditional fish and chips!    

              

The Boathouse Café 

The Boathouse Café is a quayside seafood restaurant and bar near the Mayflower Steps, offering freshly prepared seafood with stunning waterfront views. While their fish and chips are a fan favourite, they also offer an extensive menu featuring locally caught fish, prepared and cooked to order by expert chefs.     

                               

Jolly Jacks 

Tucked away in the Mayflower Marina, Jolly Jacks is a real gem for those looking to enjoy classic British fare with a waterside twist. This isn’t your average chippy – it’s a full-service, bistro-style restaurant that serves fish and chips with flair. 

          

Harbourside Fish & Chips

A local favourite for decades, Harbourside is based on the Barbican and serves traditional fish and chips. They also operate a dedicated gluten-free shop next door, called Barbican Fish Bar. Regularly voted one of the best in the UK, it’s a must-try whether you’re a local or visiting. 

                                  

The Harbour Seafood Restaurant & Takeaway 

Also located on Sutton Harbour, The Harbour is ideal for those who want a proper sit-down meal with stunning views. Their seafood is responsibly sourced, and they welcome families – even your four-legged friends. Takeaway is also available if you’d prefer to dine al fresco along the Barbican. 

          

The Dock

Set in King Point Marina, family-run restaurant The Dock boasts idyllic views over the harbour. Their menu includes the delightful beer-battered haddock with tartare sauce, chips and peas – alongside many other seafood and non-seafood options. 

                                     

Ocean View Bar & Dining 

Enjoy fish and chips with panoramic sea views at Ocean View Bar & Dining, located in the Dome. Indulge in their beer-battered Plymouth market fish served with chips, minted peas and tartare sauce, all within a stylish Art Deco interior. There are plenty of other seafood and non-seafood dishes on offer too.
