About us

The Boathouse Cafe is a seafood cafe and restaurant, set in a unique location in the fisherman's arches on the Mayflower Steps, just a stone's throw from Plymouth's historic Barbican.

Our speciality is wonderful fresh fish and shellfish, caught by our own day boats, along with a changing menu of locally sourced, seasonal produce.

A quirky space, built into the boatman's stores on Commercial Wharf, The Boathouse Cafe is perfect for cosy coffees and delicious dining from daytime through to evening. There's plenty of outside space for dining al fresco, with fantastic views of Sutton Harbour on the left, Mount Batten and the mouth of the River Plym on the right.

Fantastic food without the fuss.

From breakfast and light lunches through to evening dining, The Boathouse Cafe serves a classic menu of fresh fish and seasonal produce. We’re also known for our fantastic coffee and scrumptious cake served on an antique plate!

Our menu is always changing based on what's in season and what’s available from our boats or other local day boats. We never know what we’ll catch from squid, crab and lobster to mackerel, sea bass, gurnard, whiting and more. What we do know is it’ll be fresh, locally caught and served onto your plate within hours!

Favourites on the menu include; scallops served in the shell with garlic and chilli, warm mackerel and beetroot salad, lobster cocktail, chilli crab claws, charcuterie plate and home-made Boathouse burger with hand-cut fries. To complement our dishes is a selection of wonderful wines, beers and local ales.
