About us
Plymouth Jazz Club is looking forward to an evening of great music on Sunday August 5th.. when star saxophonist Derek Nash from Jules Holland's Rhythm & Blues Orchestra joins old friend Martin Dale with the Craig Milverton Trio. Two musicians in this talented band have featured regularly in the British Jazz Awards, Derek Nash in the saxophone category and Craig Milverton, voted best jazz pianist in 2010, continue to appear regularly.
Derek Nash is at the forefront of British Jazz and is "one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today" - The Guardian.
He is a vibrant and charismatic performer on all 4 saxes from Soprano to Baritone, equally at home leading his own bands, or swinging his way to best CD of the year 2000 with Spike Robinson. He has appeared live & on TV with with many top performers including Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Will Young, Ruby Turner. He has played with the cream of jazz musicians including Alan Barnes, George Melly, Warren Vache and many others.
Derek has played with Plymouth's favourite sax player Martin Dale many times, including in the award winning London based jazz ensemble Sax Appeal, and together they have built up a world class rapport. Martin was a member of the John Burch Octet, taking the tenor sax position when Dick Morrissey became ill, and has worked on the Q.E.2 as lead alto player, backing such artists as Neil Sedaka, Petula Clark and Tom Jones.
With the Craig Milverton Trio containing such great musicians as Britain's No.1 jazz pianist Craig Milverton, leading London bassist Ashley John Long and fine drummer Coach York, it is almost certainly the best trio in the West and an exciting evening of great jazz can be expected.
