About us
Live music and theatre is coming to Plymouth City Centre’s vibrant new performance space, the Amphitheatre, this summer.
From April to September, the second Saturday of every month will come alive with free open-air music concerts, showcasing a diverse mix of talented local artists right in the heart of the city centre.
Upcoming Performances
Saturday 11 April: Kizamba - sponsored by Copthorne Hotel
Kizamba exploded onto the scene in summer 2021, born from a shared love of Latin and Afro-Caribbean rhythms and a single goal: get people dancing! Their sound takes you from the Caribbean and Latin America to New York jazz clubs—genre hopping effortlessly between Latin jazz, reggae, Afro-Cuban salsa, soca, cumbia, and ska.
With deep Caribbean roots across the band and a multilingual lead singer raised there, Kizamba’s authenticity shines through every note. The joy is real, the energy is infectious—and the dance floor is unavoidable.
Includes a free Salsa dance workshop. Come ready to move!
Saturday 9 May: Echo Town with support from Colour TV and Kate Hall sponsored by Copthorne Hotel
Forget genres for a second, forget pigeon holes or styles. Echo Town lives in a world of its own. The musical chemistry between these brothers, Richard and Robert Harrison, shouts louder than any genre ever could. Witnessing these two working-class Yorkshire boys bounce around, smiling and loving the jams they produce, is enough to captivate their audience. Drawing on the bands of the 60s and 70s, Echo Town like to incorporate improvised musical excursions, drum solos, and off-the-cuff jams to keep each show fresh for them.
Colour TV began in Cornwall, by accident. Jack Yeo’s melodic guitar work and Sam Durneen’s wistful storytelling present a rare and unmistakable marriage; James Elliott and Sean Goldsmith propel the sound with a vivid rhythm. Underpinning all of Colour TV’s music is a note of grief. But that’s life.
Kate Hall blends indie pop, rnb, soul, blues into a genre-defying sound. Influenced by artists like Amy Winehouse, KT Tunstall, Fiona Apple and Adele, her songs are heartfelt and honest, with a sound that’s both classic and current. Currently touring and gathering momentum with her band following well received slots on the best Cornish Festival Main stages in 2025.
Saturday 13 June: The Rin Tins with support from Evelyn Shaw - sponsored by Moxy Hotel
The Rin Tins have been keeping people dancing since their inception in early 2011 and since then the band has strutted from one stage to another playing high octane gypsy swing to the party hard masses. These festival veterans have appeared on stages at Glastonbury, Shambala, Boomtown and Womad as well as festivals across Europe.
With music that combines harmonies to swing jazz rhythms and pounding oompa beats, for the past 14 years The Rin Tins have been filling dance floors and festival tents across Europe. Includes a free swing dance workshop ran by 'Mad About Swing' - get yourselves involved and have a go at swing dance!
Evelyn Shaw is a 17 year old A-level student living in Plymouth. Music has been a large part of her life for as long as she can remember. She uses it as a way to emotionally express herself and tell the stories that can’t be told with words.
This led to her start writing music just under a year ago. Evelyn is most inspired by her personal experiences, such as relationships and her Christian beliefs. Her style of music is mostly inspired by indie folk music, such as that of Amélie Farron. She writes songs as they come to her, as an expression of inner thoughts and feelings.
Saturday 11 July: Chainska Brassica with support from Yonder Folk and Olly Skinner - sponsored by Moxy Hotel
Chainska Brassika’s sole purpose is to get their audiences bouncing and having the time of their lives. Blending raucous ska, heavy dub and classic reggae, the South Londoners have gone from rocking house parties at school to playing stadium shows with Madness, have become Glastonbury Festival favourites and collaborated with reggae royalty Toots Hibbert of the Maytals while recording in Jamaica.
Heralding from Devon, Yonder Folk is a collaboration between well loved New Daze front-girl “Jessy Sellors” and former Yes Sir Boss frontman and solo artist “Matt Sellors”. Yonder Folk play a mix of original compositions and covers that have been inspired by the generational wealth of timeless music from over the decades that we all know and love.
Olly Skinner is a folk/pop musician based in the Southwest! He started playing my own music in early 2024 and quickly became enamoured with Plymouth’s music scene and loved how much variety there was. There was so much inspiration and available for me to now gather from each genre. Olly draws most of his inspiration from folk music but I often tries to enhance more abstract and somewhat solemn lyrics with a catchy and funky hook.
Saturday 8 August: Town of Cats with support from Iris Lee - sponsored by Moxy Hotel
Energetic nine piece festival favourites, Town of Cats bring their love of afrobeat, latin grooves, big dirty riffs, trashy 80’s pop, half remembered musicals and entirely hallucinated toilet poetry to the stage. Humorous, dark and introspective tales delivered with a blasting brass section and electrifying synth solos, Town of Cats deliver a whirlwind performance that’s infectiously fun, gets audiences to their feet and keeps them dancing. With headline sets at Glastonbury’s Croissant Neuf, Shambala and Boomtown under their belt, cementing their reputation as one of the safest pair of between eighteen to twenty hands on the circuit.
Includes a 30 minute workshop - details TBC
Iris Lee curates and creates music for those who feel deeply and often feel ‘too much’. Her music is rooted in her experiences of girlhood and transition into womanhood with themes of love, friendship and intimacy.
Her work has been compared to artists like Kate Bush, The Last Dinner Party and Mazzy Star. Daniel Pascoe, BBC Radio Devon presenter and host of BBC Introducing South West, described her first single ‘Modern Men’ as an ‘unreal introduction’ to the industry.
Saturday 12 September: SunDogs with support fom Badcore Horns and Ruby Thomas
A true independent force of the South West music scene, Andy Quick is known for dynamic live performances, sharp songwriting and a sound that refuses to be boxed in. So it's no wonder music lovers are getting excited about his new project Sundogs.
With anthemic riffs, mighty choruses, big female vocals and a sun drenched sound this is a killer live show from a proper festival band.
Badcore Horns are trumpet, bari sax, drums and an MC making obnoxious drum’n’brass. They sound like The Prodigy getting into a bar fight with a marching band!
Influenced by New Orleans brass ensembles and modern electronic styles, they shred anything from hiphop and gypsy jazz to drum‘n’bass and dubstep. Suitable for big heavy stage shows with all the shiny gizmos or lightweight walk rounds and supports like popup audio ninjas, Badcore are guaranteed to bring the noise.
Ruby Thomas is a singer, guitarist and songwriter at City College Plymouth. She has always been a keen singer and has been playing guitar for around 18 months. Her favourite styles of music range from Stevie Wonder to Taylor Swift but she mostly takes influence from country, pop and singer-songwriters such as Lizzy McAlpine and Emily Ann Roberts.
