About us
Plymouth will host another major international sailing event in summer 2026 as the Nacra 15 World Championship comes to the city from 25 July to 1 August 2026.
The event is based on the Mount Batten peninsula and the surrounding villages of Turnchapel, Hooe and Oreston, on the eastern shore of the Cattewater — a short hop across the water from the historic Barbican and Plymouth Hoe.
Hosted jointly by Hooe Point Sailing Club and Plym Yacht Club, the championship will bring together some of the world's most talented young sailors, with more than 60 boats expected from 11 countries.
The event marks a unique collaboration between the two clubs, combining Plym Yacht Club's experience of delivering large-scale international competitions, including the acclaimed 2025 J/24 World Championship, with Hooe Point Sailing Club's strong reputation for dinghy racing in Plymouth Sound.
The Nacra 15 is a high-performance semi-foiling catamaran and the official World Sailing youth multihull, making the championship a showcase for the next generation of Olympic sailing talent.
Visitors can expect exciting, high-speed racing against the backdrop of Plymouth Sound, one of the UK's premier sailing venues. The championship will also feature local interest, with several Plymouth-based youth sailors competing on home waters, including Maddie Jinks and Marcus King, who represented Great Britain at the Youth Sailing World Championship.
The event is expected to attract competitors, coaches, support teams and spectators from around the world, further cementing Plymouth's growing reputation as a leading destination for international sailing events.
