About us
Join us in Peter Tavy on late August Bank Holiday – Monday 31st August, from 2.00pm – to share another great traditional Village Fayre. The bells of St Peter's church will ring out to welcome visitors from far and near. Come along and enjoy the games, stalls, refreshments and more, spread around the Village Hall and Methodist Chapel in the centre of the village.
There's fun for all ages – test your skill on the coconut shy, skittles or other intriguing games. Or seek out a pre-loved bargain at "Granny's attic" and browse the books, plants, home-made cakes and jams and preserves stalls. Try your luck on the ever-popular Tombola stall, or enter the Grand Raffle (with a chance to win a meal for two at the Peter Tavy Inn).
Then you can relax over a cream tea (or coffee!), and tuck into delicious home-made cakes and savouries, or enjoy an ice cream.
Don't forget to choose a duck to back in the exciting Duck Race down the brook, and later head over to the bridge to watch the hotly-contested nail-biting finish in the centre of the village.
Throughout the afternoon, enjoy the entertainment - and be sure to catch the demonstration of sheep shearing by one of the world's top blade shearers, George Mudge, following his success with son Andrew at the World Championships in New Zealand. And take the chance to drop into the Hall to admire the skills of the young and old entrants in the many village fayre competitions – from cakes and flower arrangements to crafts, art and creative writing.
The Fayre is a great family afternoon out - a slice of traditional village life in which the whole community gets involved. All funds raised are split between Peter Tavy Village Hall, Church and Chapel.
Unfortunately, card or phone payment facilities aren't available, so please bring along a pocketful of old-fashioned cash!
The Fayre opens at 2.00pm on Bank Holiday Monday, following the running of the 23rd annual "Peter Tavy Plod" footrace and fun run, which starts in the centre of the village at 1.00pm.
There's free parking – please follow the signs and stewards' directions to the parking areas.
