About us

Plymouth Jazz Club is delighted to be able to present, at this special extra gig, Alan Barnes, the nationally and internationally acclaimed saxophonist, universally acknowledged as Britain's No.1 jazzman. He has appeared at all the major jazz venues and festivals throughout the UK. His awards, accomplishments, recordings and famous collaborators are far too numerous to be listed here. He is undoubtedly the most famous jazz artist (and wit!) currently on the British jazz scene.
Alan features regularly in the British Jazz Awards, winner usually in more than one of the saxophone & clarinet categories. Backing group leader Craig Milverton also features regularly in these Awards, both as pianist – winner 2010, runner-up frequently - and as a member of Digby Fairweather's Half Dozen, a regular winner of the Best Small Group category over many years.

Craig's Trio is one of the best in the UK, backing great musicians such as Greg Abate, Scott Hamilton & Ken Peplowski from America plus the cream of UK jazzmen, not only locally but also touring the UK. Craig & the Trio have developed a fine understanding & rapport with Alan Barnes.

With the Craig Milverton Trio containing such great musicians as top jazz pianist Craig Milverton, leading London bassist Ashley John Long and fine drummer Coach York, it is almost certainly the best trio in the West and one of the finest in the country, and an exciting evening of great jazz can be expected.
