Looking for the best things to do in Plymouth this May? You’re in the right place. As the city comes alive with longer days and warmer weather, Plymouth events in May 2026 offer something for everyone from vibrant waterfront festivals and family-friendly activities to live music, food markets, and cultural experiences across the city.

Pirates Weekend  

Pirates Weekend across the waterfront in PLymouth kickstarts the city’s headline events season on 9-10 May. Prepare for a weekend of swashbuckling fun with plenty of family-friendly entertainmentsea shantiesa pirate trailtraders and more to explore at The Barbican, Royal William Yard and West Hoe. New for this year’s event sees the Pirate Raft Race take place on Sunday 10 May. Build a raft and take part in the battle on the water, or cheer on from the shores. 

Last chance to check out Beryl Cook Exhibition 

May marks the last chance to visit the Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy exhibition at The Box Plymouth. While the life-size sculptures around the city are set to stay for the foreseeable future, the exhibition at the museum ends on Sunday 31 May. Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy showcases some of the artist’s most iconic works, and has been hugely-popular since its launch in January attracting more than 52 thousand visitors in that time.  

Tinside Lido re-opens 

One of Plymouth’s most iconic spots is making a splashy return this May! Tinside Lido, the breathtaking art-deco pool perched on the waterfront, is re-opening its doors, ready to welcome back visitors and avid swimmers alike on Saturday 23 May. 

Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival  

Runners take to the streets on Sunday 17 May for the Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival. Watch on as thousands of runners take part in the event which starts and finishes at Plymouth Hoe. Running routes include 10k and half marathon lengths across the city.  

Live music in Plymouth City Centre 

Plymouth City Centre hosts two live music events during May. It begins with Saturday Sessions at Old Town Square on Saturday 2 May. Head to Old Town Square outside of Drake Circus shopping centre for an afternoon of free music with a performances from popular hip-hop duo The Scribes from 2-4pm on the day. The following weekend sees the second Live at The Amphitheatre, sponsored by Copthorne Hotel Plymouth, of the year.  

Outdoor Cinema  

An Outdoor Cinema is coming to Saltram House in May. The cinema runs for three days on 22-24 May. Simply book your tickets, pack a picnic, bring your camping chairs and blankets, and settle in for an incredible evening of film in a truly breathtaking backdrop. Screenings include, Wicked Sing-a-long, Mamma Mia! ExtraABBAganza and Sense and Sensibility.  

Flavour Fest  

At the end of the month Flavour Fest, the south west’s largest free food festival, returns to Plymouth City Centre from 29-31 May. Discover more than 80 traders serving up delicious dishes across the three days. The food festival promises a dish for every tastebud and is a must-visit for any avid foodie. Alongside the food there is live music every day at the Entertainment Zone, sponsored by The Treasury, where you can find a range of popular local artists and bands. Don’t forget to visit the Chef Demonstration Stage where some of the region’s top chefs showcase new dishes, cooking tips and more. 

Green Man Weekend  

Head over to Mount Edgcumbe House for a weekend of celebration on 23-24 at Green Man Weekend. The event celebrates the re-birth of the year by constructing a huge Green Man figure made from storm damaged trees and is free to visit. Enjoy performances from local bands throughout the weekend, treat your taste buds to mouth-watering bites from the local food stalls, and browse the local crafts also on offer. 

May half term  

There’s loads going on across Plymouth this May half-term, running from 23–31 May. From family-friendly adventures to can’t-miss city events, it’s the perfect time to get out and explore everything Britain’s Ocean City has to offer.
