About us

Central Park is the largest park in Plymouth. It was originally created in 1928 as a park devoted to the improvement of the health of city residents.

Wide boulevards go through the park's open meadows and woodlands, up and down hills with fantastic views over the city towards Plymouth Sound and Cornwall.

The Meadow Cafe offers a delicious healthy menu and is open 8am to 6pm, seven days a week. The Meadow Café is located adjacent to the clock tower, overlooking the Play Space. It has a wildflower roof with 34 different varieties of wildflower - the grass blanket is a haven for bees and other pollinating insects. Open 10am to 3pm from 28 October 2019.

The Life Centre opened in June 2012, a leading centre of sporting excellence with a range of sport activities for everyone including a swimming pool and diving boards.

Central Park Play Space has recently been kitted out with new trampolines, hammocks and a double zip wire. The "bigger and better" park, has been redesigned based on a birds, bees and butterflies theme.

The new play space has three key areas: The first two areas are fenced and include toddler, sand and water play with features like multi-person swings, a roundabout, balance beams, water pumps and trays and a huge sandpit surrounded by decking. The third area is open with a more adventurous feel and includes a huge climbing/sliding structure, trampolines, hammocks, a low ropes course and double zip wire. Some of the existing larger equipment, including the space net and existing water play feature, remain and have been upgraded and resurfaced.

The Central Park Skate Park re-opened in June 2018, having been revamped and extended. As part of the recent makeover, the skate park has got bigger and better, adding a snake run which is popular with skaters and BMX riders. There is a training bowl for those less confident riders and skaters, and additional seating for spectators. A quarter pipe and “slappy kerb” have been installed and after consultation from regular users during the planning, a free running/parkour area, amended to improve the flow between structures, is also included.

Other facilities include, Bowling green, Orienteering course, Cycle route through park, Baseball and lacrosse clubs Pitch and putt course - nine hole (admission payable). Enjoy panoramic views over the city centre, Plymouth Sound, a wild flower meadows, woodland and open fields.

Park Tennis Plymouth is a network of high quality public courts for all of Plymouth to access and play tennis all year round. The courts are all owned and run by Plymouth City Council who work in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association and various community partners.

There are 4 new courts within Central Park (now open for use) as part of the redevelopment of this park. The council is currently working on the long term future of other public tennis courts across the city. As courts are upgraded and improved to help with the long term maintenance we are making a small charge to play. Currently we are only charging for the new courts at Central Park which have been developed to a high standard to give a truly quality tennis experience.
