About us
Global Book Club Plymouth has chosen three books which give a varied insight into Germany's past - a personal history told through the story of one house, a classical novel set in Nazi Berlin and a lightning tour of German history. You are invited to read one or all three of the following, then come and join the discussion.
- The House by the Lake by Thomas Harding - 20th century Germany, through the lives of the families who lived in a summer house near Berlin.
- Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada - a classic novel of life under an oppressive regime.
- The Shortest History of Germany by James Hawes - 2,000 years in 240 pages: a bestseller in the UK and Germany.
The event is free to attend and is open to all - no booking required. Please note the venue has disabled access - if the ground floor door is locked, please ring 01752 588400.
