About us
For anyone fascinated by stories of exploration, adventure and human endurance, 'Into The Ice' promises a captivating day of talks at the University of Plymouth on Saturday the 24th October 2026. This unique conference will bring to life some of the most remarkable episodes in polar history. Speakers will explore the mysteries of the Titanic wreck, an ambitious airship voyage to the North Pole, the tragic fate of Sir Franklin's expedition in search of the Northwest Passage, and Plymouth-born Captain Robert Falcon Scott's final journey to the South Pole. The programme will also shine a light on Emily Shackleton, whose support and resilience played a crucial role in the achievements of her husband, the legendary polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.
