About us

This is a special event, raising funds for Plymouth Arts Cinema's new projector.

Each ticket includes a £5 donation to Plymouth Arts Cinema. Please note PAC Friend discounts, complimentary tickets and Champion tickets do not apply to this event.

The event will start in the cinema from 7pm, with a 5-10 mins talk by Matthew Luke Onuki and cheese tasting, followed by the film Holy Cow.

The Bar and Box Office will be open from 5pm, we recommend arriving by 6.30pm for drinks and a chance to take part in the first ever Plymouth Arts Cinema raffle!

Matthew Onuki Luke has over eight years' experience in the artisan cheese industry. He has worked in some of the top cheesemongers in London, supplying the finest cheeses from the UK and Europe and advising Michelin-starred restaurants on all their cheese needs. Having recently relocated to Plymouth, he now works for the Academy of Cheese, providing cheese education for all.

About the film, Holy Cow (15):

Dir. Louise Courvoisier, France, 2024, 90 mins. In French with English subtitles. Cast. Clément Faveau, Luna Garret, Maïwene Barthelemy, Dimitry Baudry, Armand Sancey Richard, Lucas Marillier.

Holy Cow is a coming-of-age story set in the heart of the Jura, a rural region known for its dairy cows, agricultural festivals, and delicate Comté cheese – and where Totone spends his youth, mainly just hanging out with his friends. But after his father's tragic accident, Totone will have to stand on his own two feet and support himself and his little sister. To this end, he decides to make the most delicate cheese and to hold his own against tough local competition.

An unexpected audience hit at last year's Cannes Film Festival and winner of two Césars including Best First Film, Holy Cow excels thanks to its graceful direction and authentic performances from its young non-actors. First-time director Louise Courvoisier tells a familiar story from the region where she grew up with a heartfelt honesty and introduces audiences to its cheese-making culture.
