About us
Superb Jazz vocalist Annika Skoogh has assembled a great band to pay tribute to the legendary American jazz singer Anita O'Day.Described in The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings as 'the toughest, most dramatic and most fiercely swinging of all jazz singers', Anita O'Day is probably best remembered for her performance at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in the States when she wore a spectacular black dress, white gloves and large hat, an event which was captured for posterity in the evocative film 'Jazz on a Summer's Day'. In a full career Anita O'Day sang with the bands of Gene Krupa, Woody Herman and Stan Kenton before branching out as a singer with small groups.
At the gig Annika Skoogh will perform such O'Day classics as Sweet Georgia Brown, Them There Eyes, Tea for Two and numbers from the singer's collaboration with Oscar Peterson. She will be joined by the UK's best Oscar Peterson interpreter, the pianist Craig Milverton, plus special guest saxophonist Martin Dale, bassist Jim Rintoul and drummer Coach York. This band is not to be missed!
The RBL has a fine function room with stage, bar, cabaret seating, free car park, disabled access.
