About us

Chris Parkes and The Ships Project have worked together to produce this exhibition, drawing on the Ships Project's collection of unique marine archaeological finds that help tell the story of Plymouth and the sea.
The exhibition is a glimpse into exploration of how marine archaeological objects can become storytellers: about our history, our city and ourselves. Refocusing how these finds are photographed and changing their scale brings out detail that sometimes is lost in traditional recording photography of finds. Exhibiting these finds with storytelling in mind allows them to become bigger than life, beautiful and intriguing. Our relationship to history is always changing, and at times challenging, so we can re-examine the material culture that tells our collective histories in a reflective and honest way.
