About us

Join our May Day celebration at The Box!

Our popular Morris Dancing event returns, with some of the very best Morris sides in the South West bringing Tavistock Place to life with colour, music, and movement. Throughout the day we'll also be running a family-friendly making workshop and an inspiring poetry workshop. Here's our programme:

Morris Dancing
12–1.30pm and 2-3.30pm on Tavistock Place. Free.
The Box welcomes in spring with dancing on Tavistock Place brought to you by Wreckers Border Morris, Lodestone Border Morris, Plymouth Morris, Dartmoor Border Morris and Old Town Twelves.

Family Fun: Tatters workshop
10am–1pm in Simmons Learning Room. Free, donations welcome.
We're running a free tatters drop-in for all to enjoy. Create a simple tatters collar or baldric with your children from recycled materials. This simple make will ensure you're all dance-ready for our Morris performance which starts at midday.

Poetry workshop with Plymouth Laureate of words
10.30am-12.30pm in the Conference Room. £10, book in advance.
Inspired by Polynesian myths and legend this workshop will explore the creation of image-poems as a vehicle for stories from cultural mythology and folklore. Through guided exercises, group discussion and playful experimentation, participants will discover new ways to shape ideas into powerful visual poems. Visit The Box website to book your spot!
