About us
The University of Plymouth Choral Society will be singing in St Andrew’s Minster Church at 7.30 on December 8th, accompanied by the University Sinfonia and conducted by their Musical Director Alice Dennis BEM. Their Christmas concert will include traditional Christmas carols for the congregation to join in with, and a selection of carols through the ages from medieval times to the 21st century.
The programme will also include a performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s joyful Gloria, featuring solos by Claire Wild (soprano) and Olivia Ray (mezzo).
Claire made her debut this summer at Garsington Opera and prior to
that performed with Welsh National Opera in 2016 and 2017. Olivia has performed at both Opera Holland Park and Grange Park Opera in recent seasons. In addition, she has also performed at the Three Choirs Festival.
The second half of the programme will include three sublime pieces by Edward Elgar: his Ave Verum Corpus, The Snow, and Lux Eterna, which is a choral setting of Nimrod from Enigma Variations.
