About us
Join us for a hands-on Flax Processing Workshop led by Vicky Putler of Flax Project CIC. Discover the fascinating journey from plant to fibre and learn traditional techniques that celebrate slow craft and sustainability.
In this workshop, you'll:
✔ Remove seeds and extract fibre from flax straw
✔ Try your hand at breaking, scutching, and hackling the flax
✔ Transform flax fibres into simple linen cordage
This is slow farming, slow craft, slow textiles—all done the old-fashioned way using hand tools and patience. Along the way, you'll learn about the environmental benefits of flax and why understanding what goes into making our clothes matters.
Why attend?
Explore sustainable textiles and their role in reducing waste
Discover why buying better and mending is key to a greener future
Enjoy a practical, creative experience rooted in tradition
Become a Young Climate Ambassador and play a part in shaping Plymouth's future!
Open to ages 11-18, this exciting opportunity offers young people the chance to meet inspiring changemakers, build new skills and take real action on climate issues.
The group meets monthly to discuss climate-related topics, collaborate on creative projects, and engage with local organisations such as the National Marine Aquarium, Poole Farm and The Box.
Activities have included tree planting, upcycling workshops, and behind-the-scenes experiences at local environmental institutions.
