About us
"The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere" leads the running order in the first edition of Wordsworth and Coleridge's The Lyrical Ballads. Two years later the second edition relegates a significantly revised "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" to obscurity, second but last in volume 1, while its flaws were mercilessly pointed out by Wordsworth in the preface. In this talk, Professor Dafydd Moore Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Professor of Eighteenth-Century Literature, asks why one of the most famous poems of English Romanticism had such a troublesome relationship with the most famous collection of poems of English Romanticism, and what that might tell us about Romanticism's understanding not only of the poetry of nature but the nature of the poet.
