About us

"A major theme that has underpinned my career is scientific diving. I first learnt to dive in 1991 and have been lucky enough to work and dive extensively in many areas of the World including Antarctica, the UK and many places in the tropics. During this talk I will discuss how my career in scientific diving started and introduce you to some of the amazing places in the world I have had the privilege to dive, including our fantastic Plymouth Sound."

Keiron Fraser, Associate Professor (Education) in Marine Conservation

Dr Keiron Fraser has had a career that has spanned fieldwork ranging from Antarctica to the Arctic and many places in between. He gained a BSc from the University of North Wales in Marine Biology and Zoology before undertaking a PhD in the University of Aberdeen on protein metabolism. After graduating, he worked for the British Antarctic Survey for the next 10 years as a Marine Ecophysiologist, Base Commander and Field Diving Officer. During this period Keiron spent 2.5 years living in the Antarctic and also worked in Svalbard. For the following 6 years Keiron worked for the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands as a Government Officer and Operations Manager, managing fisheries, a fisheries patrol vessel, tourism and large environmental projects, including helping manage the largest rat eradication in the World. On returning to the UK Keiron worked for the Civil Service for 2 years, ultimately managing European Regional Development funding for Cornwall. He Joined the University of Plymouth in 2017, initially as Academic Diving Manager, Keiron is now an Associate Professor of Marine Conservation, University Diving Officer and an Expedition Leader for the National Geographic Pristine Seas Programme.
