About us
Plymouth Athenaeum Writers' Group is hosting a fun and interactive Crime Writing Workshop on Monday, 18th November (7.30pm – 9.30pm).
The workshop will focus on the key elements of crime fiction including plot, characterisation, setting and point of view.
Participants will take part in a number of exercises that will help them to get started on an idea or develop an existing one further.
Suitable for the beginner through to the more experienced writer.
The workshop will be run by Louise Sharland, who has just won the Big Issue crime writing competition for debut novel, Vigil. It is a psychological mystery about loss and revenge in which a grieving mother becomes convinced the death of her teenage son was not an accident.
As the winner of the competition, Louise has earned a two-book deal with Avon, which is part of the prestigious HarperCollins publishing house.
Louise, who has an MA in Crime Writing from the University of East Anglia, is an experienced short story writer with a number of awards to her name. These include the Woman & Home Magazine short story competition, with her entry being included in an anthology alongside writers such as Ruth Rendell and Lee Child.
She was also a runner up in the Daily Mail First Crime Novel Competition.
Entry to the Crime Writing Workshop is free and open to the public.
