About us
On Saturday the 28th October, the Devon and Cornwall Polar Society is hosting a day conference on Roald Amundsen at the University of Plymouth.
In recent years, the Society has conducted several successful events commemorating Polar explorers of the 'heroic age' of Antarctic exploration and a celebration of Roald Amundsen is long overdue notwithstanding as you may be aware, Plymouth is the birthplace of Captain Robert Falcon Scott!
A panel of four distinguished polar experts will discuss the adventures and achievements of this great Norwegian explorer to an international audience of around 200 people.
The speakers are as follows:
Dr Anders Bache: Consultant, Follo Museum at Amundsen's House
Astrid Furholt: Following Amundsen's Tracks: The first woman to walk to the South Pole
Geir Kløver: Director of the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway
Kevin Kenny: Board Member of the Athy Shackleton Museum
