About us

We bring you Brian De Palma's forgotten foray into the musical horror genre. A raucous retelling of the Phantom of the Opera story – this one sees a struggling songwriter sell his soul for musical success, only to be betrayed by a rock impresario, robbed of his voice, and moved to wreak his horrible revenge.

Dr Alastair Smith from the University's School of Psychology will introduce this Halloween edition of our Celluloid Psychology series and discuss the intriguing relationship between brain function and the sound of our voice.

Director: Brian de Palma
Cast: Paul Williams, William Finley, George Memmoli, Jessica Harper
