About us
All are welcome to attend this free film screening of Barbra Streisand's Oscar-winning film, Yentl (15).Set in turn of the century Eastern Europe it tells the story of Yentl, a girl desperate to study when the world of study belonged only to men and so in order to achieve her dreams she disguises herself as a man and joins a Yeshiva in the city finding love and almost losing herself along the way. Yentl is the Oscar-winning, musical retelling of Isaac Bashevis Singer's 'Yentl, The Yeshiva Boy' was the first film directed by Barbra Streisand (who also co-wrote, produced and stars in the film) subsequently making her the first woman to achieve a Best Director Golden Globe Award. Expect big emotional punches, a rich musical score and an introduction to Jewish customs via the silver screen.
This is a free film screening as part of the Yalla! Film Club from Pastoral and Spiritual Support at the University of Plymouth. Yalla! encourages staff, students and our local community to come together and experience world faiths through the magic of cinema. Whilst it is a free event, you will need to register to attend and let us know if you have any accessibility requirements.
