About us

Join us for a special Music Forum in celebration of 250 years of Beethoven, a live-streamed musical evening with Dr Robert Taub, pianist and Music Director at The Arts Institute, and composer Jonathan Dawe. Through performance and informal conversation Robert and Jonathan will share how Beethoven created his music.

What were Beethoven's primary creative motivations? How did his work evolve in structure and form? What changes did he make along the way? How did he advance the state of the art? And what can learning about his works today bring to today's performers?

Despite Beethoven occupying more than 24 places of residence, most of the original pages of sketches he carried with him to Vienna in 1792 were within his reach the day he died. Many of these sketches have survived the centuries, and reveal a greater understanding into his creative evolution for audiences today.

This insightful musical evening will highlight areas of creative progression within Beethoven's autograph scores, with a focus upon specific musical implications for us as interpreters and listeners. In addition, Jonathan will discuss his new composition for string quartet - a work that draws from Beethoven's own sketches for his String Quartet Op.135.

As part of this evening you are also invited to participate in a live Q&A session with the speakers.

Tickets to experience this event online via YouTube live-stream are now available.
