About us

Plymouth choir Phoenix Chorale is performing 'Jubilate Deo' by Dan Forrest, a global celebration of joy sung in seven languages; and Bob Chilcott's relaxed and highly original 'A Little Jazz Mass'. They will also be joined by two outstanding Plymouth-based soloists who perform throughout the UK as well as internationally: soprano Catherine Hamilton and mezzo soprano Charlotte Badham.

Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo is a global celebration of joy, based on Psalm 100, "O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands". The work is written in seven different languages: Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Mandarin, Zulu, Spanish and English, and each movement comprises characteristics of the various musical cultures. Commissioned and premiered by Henry Leck and the Indianapolis Children's Choirs in April 2016.

A Little Jazz Mass was first performed in 2004 at the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans. Bob Chilcott wrote this setting of the Latin Missa brevis using a variety of jazz styles, influenced by his previous collaborations with notable musicians such as Richard Rodney Bennett, George Shearing and John Dankworth.
