About us

Join writer, illustrator, musician, and Plymouth Laureate of Words 2025–2027, R.C. Thomas, for a poetry workshop that welcomes writers of all levels.

The workshop will explore the creation of image-poems as a vehicle for stories from cultural mythology and folklore.

Through guided exercises, group discussion and playful experimentation, participants will discover new ways to shape ideas into powerful visual poems. Inspired by contemporary Pacific Island visual poetry and art, and linked to Polynesian myths and legends, this workshop connects with the breath-taking Journeys with Mai exhibition. Whether you want to build confidence, develop your voice, or simply enjoy the company of fellow writers, this friendly session offers a supportive space to create and share. Bring something to write with, your creative energy, an open mind.

Plymouth Laureate of Words is a creative partnership between Literature Works, Plymouth Culture and The Box. The Laureate represents their city in words, illuminating its life, culture and stories through a combination of creative writing commissions and public events. The locally based Laureate meets the Plymouth community to inspire and encourage the sharing of stories, reflecting the voices at the heart of the city.

This event is delivered in partnership with Literature Works.
