About us

The Acoustic Academy is back on Plymouth's Barbican, bringing its Acoustic Sessions to Montana Saloon on Wednesday 11 November 2026, starting at 8pm.

For anyone who remembers the Academy's nights at the Blues Bar and Three Crowns, this is the beginning of a new chapter. For those discovering it for the first time, expect an evening that brings acoustic musicians and people who love live music together, with opportunities to perform, discover local talent and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Academy began at the Blues Bar, where it ran for around ten years before moving to the Three Crowns for a further three years. Throughout that time, its purpose remained the same: spreading the acoustic love and helping inspire the next generation of musicians.

Those evenings brought together people at every stage of their musical journey. Beginners stepped onto a stage for the first time. Seasoned professionals tried out their sets. Regulars returned to listen, sing along and support the performers. The Academy helped launch many Plymouth musicians and became the setting for some unforgettable nights on the Barbican.

Now, that spirit has a new home at Montana Saloon.

The Acoustic Sessions give singers, guitarists and other acoustic musicians a platform to share their music with a live audience. Performance slots are booked in advance, giving those taking part a confirmed place in the evening's programme. Every performer receives a free drink.

Whether you are developing your confidence, introducing your own songs or performing familiar favourites, the Academy's aim is to encourage musicians to take their next step. Experience has always varied across its performers, and that mixture is part of what makes the evening interesting.

There is also an opportunity to make an impression beyond the night itself. Montana Saloon is looking for live acts, so performing at the Academy gives musicians a chance to introduce their music to the venue for consideration for future bookings.

You do not need to perform to be part of it. Come along with friends, enjoy the music and support Plymouth's acoustic scene. The audience has always been an important part of the Academy, helping turn individual performances into a shared evening of live entertainment.

If you remember the original nights, come and reconnect with the Academy. If you have never been, join us as we begin this next chapter on the Barbican.
