Looking for some fun activities to enjoy in Plymouth with your family during the February half-term break? You’re in luck, because there's lots to offer for visitors of all ages and interests.

Here are some of our top picks for things to do in Plymouth this half-term.

                 

Indoor attractions 

The Box

Head to Plymouth's award-winning museum, The Box, this half term. Admire the fascinating artefacts and exhibits that tell the stunning story of Plymouth's past at the free-to-enter museum. Current exhibitions at the museum include People and Place: Art Collection ShowcaseYinka Shonibare: End of Empire and John Akomfrah: Arcadia while there are other Family Fun Workshops running throughout the week.

                  

Market Hall

Indulge yourself in a breathtaking experience at Plymouth’s 15m, 360° immersive dome at Market Hall. Take off to space or swim to the bottom of the ocean in the interactive dome - the only one of its kind in Europe.

Shows set to take place this half term include Legend of the Enchanted Reef, Dinosaurs: Story of Survival and Making Magic.

                    

Mayflower Museum

Explore the history of the famous Mayflower ship at the Mayflower Museum on The Barbican. Take a journey through the years as you make your way across three floors experiencing history, encounters, exploration, impacts, plus commemoration and legacies of the ship and its sailors.

                      

Theatre Royal Plymouth

Take in a show at the Theatre Royal Plymouth this half-term. The Drifter's Girl is coming to the exciting venue straight from the West End as part of a UK and Ireland tour.

The smash-hit show promises to get audiences on their feet night after night with a phenomenal soundtrack packed full of iconic Drifters hits including Saturday Night At The Movies, Save The Last Dance For Me and Stand By Me.

                         

Dartmoor Prison Musuem 

Visit Dartmoor Prison Musuem, which reopens for its 2024 season on 10 February, and learn about life inside one of the world's most famous and notorious jails. Discover over 200 years of this prison’s turbulent history ranging from the beginning, when Dartmoor was a Prisoner of War Depot for French and American prisoners of war, to the later convict era through to today. 

                

Get outdoors

City Centre Ocean Lights Installation

Head to Civic Square from 15 to 17 February and discover captivating light installations that show off the scale and wonder of the oceans. Three artworks will each tell a story about the ocean and Plymouth's connection. You can also hear from Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and RNLI, and the kids can get involved in free craft activities on Thursday and Friday evening.

City Centre Lights Installation

The Barbican 

Explore one of Plymouth's most historic areas at The Barbican. The cobbled streets hold many stories of Plymouth's fascinating past and are lined with restaurants, cafes and iconic attractions including Plymouth Gin DistilleryMayflower Steps and the Mayflower Museum to name just a few.

Discover amazing facts about the area by using the Plymouth Trails App, which takes you on a guided tour of the area offering nuggets of valuable information that tell you more about times gone by beside the water.

                 

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park

Take a trip across the water to South East Cornwall and explore the fascinating gardens of Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park . Make your way up the hill to the iconic house built in 1500 and admire the stunning views back across to Plymouth. The gardens are a haven of history and provide a great day out for all of the family.

                  

Saltram House 

Get outdoors this holiday season at the serene landscapes of Saltram House. A tranquil garden plus historic parkland are waiting to be explored at the picturesque National Trust venue.

Explore the 500 acres of parkland which is home to farmland, beaches, different habitats an estuary and so much more within the stunning environment. 

                 

Admire animals 

National Marine Aquarium

Rain or shine there is plenty to explore and entertain at the National Marine Aquarium this half term. Home to over 200,000 underwater species, the Aquarium is hosting events throughout the half-term including Quiet at The Aquarium and Sleeping with the Sharks among the experiences to enjoy.

                     

Dartmoor Zoo

Treat the family to a trip to Dartmoor Zoo this half term. The Zoo boasts a wonderful 33 acres of woodland, celebrating a wide range of exotic and native animals. Amomg these include the biggest variety of big cats in the South West of England such as the new addition to the zoo, Freddo the Leopard. Head to the zoo and take on the dinosaur-themed trail and dino workshops throughout the week of FebROARY and if you visit on Valentine's Day you get two entries for the price of one.

                 

Paignton Zoo 

A short drive away from Plymouth, Paignton Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals spread across 80 acres of grounds. Spend a day at the zoo with the family this half term, and say hello to all the animals on show.

Throughout the holidays, Bing & Flop, from the award-winning series Bing, are coming to the zoo! Enjoy Bing’s fun family activity trail, Storytime sessions and Meet & Greets with Bing & Flop themselves at various dates throughou the week.

                   

Pennywell Farm 

Enjoy a fun-filled experience packed full of animals, hands-on activities, rides, play-time, shows and displays at Pennywell Farm near Plymouth this half term. The cute farm hosts a wide variety of activities throughout the day and has something to delight everyone from super cute piglets to tractor racing!
