About us

LADY NOIR - Has been described as 'Moonlight jazz with a touch of sleaze', Lady Noir was a project originally conceptualised by Chris and Hannah and now developed as a fully collaborative 5 piece 'Junk Jazz' experiment.

The mysterious and enigmatic Chris Le Hat has long been pacing the shadows of Plymouth's barbican music scene. Originally inspired by classic golden era Hip-Hop he was a crafter of beats with interest in music production before reaching for the guitar in his twenties giving him a different perspective on music writing. Intrigued by the samples used in Hip Hop he traced them to their origins discovering the layers in blues, funk and jazz which influenced the riffs and licks that underpin his unique style. Going full circle he has been sampled this year by London based Hip Hop Collective LAB79. A dark horse, he took his time to reveal his guitar stylings to the musical community, he approached Hannah Shady Lady Leach with his unusual chords and challenged her to find the melody and lyrics for them. Over time they devised an anthology of conceptual numbers now developed for a five piece band and as the boys settled in, Lady Noir evolved to become a fully collaborative project. Chris is the origin of every song, his guitar compositions the first inspiration for each track and his interest in the aesthetic of Film Noir key in crafting the overall feel for the band.
