About us

One of Plymouth’s key historic landmarks, the 17th Century Mount Batten Tower will be open to the public.

Enjoy a visit and learn more about the artillery fort that once protected the Plymouth Sound peninsula, which will be supported by our Coastal Rangers, PSNMP volunteers and Mount Batten Centre staff.

Accessibility Information for the Tower

Please note: This event is subject to cancellations, 24-hours prior to the event, due to weather conditions that impact the health and safety of visitors and staff. If you plan to visit on a certain day, please keep your eye on bad weather and our social media stories for updates.

Payment: Up-keep for The Mount Batten Artillery Tower relies on funds raised by visitors. Access to the Tower is £2 per person (card only payment), unless advertised otherwise on social media posts by us or the Mount Batten Centre.

Visitor Capacity: There is a maximum number of 25 people allowed in the Tower at any one time – the team will ensure that any queue times are kept to a minimum.

Accessibility: Please note that due to the age and layout of the building, levels are uneven with steep, irregular steps to the top of the Tower and wheelchair access is not possible.

Pets: To maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, we respectfully ask that you leave your dogs at home as they are not permitted within the Mount Batten Tower. However, assistance dogs are always welcome.

Parking: Due to the building works that will improve facilities and accessibility to the Mount Batten Centre, the Centre’s car park is closed. However, there are Plymouth City Council carparks that are available.

Other travel options: To get to Mount Batten via public transport please consider number 2 bus – you can find the timetable here. Alternatively, the Mount Batten Ferry from the Barbican Landing Stage is also available and you can see the timetable here.
